ANSI means Area of Natural and Scientific Interest, a

Provincial designation meant to secure our most valuable

“genetic and scientific resources”.

Spring Garden has also been identified by Essex Region

Conservation Authority as an Environmentally Significant

Area (ESA):

“the most important remaining biological

communities in Essex County.”

In the City of Windsor's Official Plan, Spring Garden is

protected as a Natural Heritage area and

“community woodland/prairie/park.”

The Schwartz Report refers to Spring Garden as

“vacant woodland”.
